How To

How to stay safe when on a Cruise Ship

You need to know a lot before you set sail on your cruise. To avoid getting into trouble, you must know how to behave onboard. These safety tips will ensure that you have a safe trip.

  1. Always be aware of what is happening around you. People are more likely to be together when they're eating on a cruise ship than anywhere else. You can easily become distracted by the chatter and food of others. This shouldn't distract you from the work you are supposed to do. If you spot someone using dangerous substances, such as smoking or alcohol, let them know politely.
  2. Your room key should always be with you on board the ship. If you get lost or need to be found, this will help you to locate your shipmates. Keep your passport with you.
  3. Keep valuables away from prying eyes. Most cabins are equipped with drawers beneath the bed. It's a great spot to store money, passports, and credit cards. Keep your valuables out of sight. Place your bags in the closet.
  4. Keep hydrated. Although cruise ships offer plenty of water, it can be difficult to remember to drink enough. You can take advantage of the complimentary bottled water onboard. Try to avoid getting dehydrated. You will feel tired and cranky which can lead to accidents or fights.
  5. Be attentive to all announcements. Announcements appear everywhere, including on TV screens or public address systems. They contain safety procedures, emergency exits, weather reports, and more. These announcements will be of great importance. They might save your life!
  6. Do not leave your cabin without first locking the door. Never leave your cabin unlocked, no matter how friendly a crew member seems. Unlocked doors are often used by thieves to gain entry. You should ask the crew for permission before you use the restroom.
  7. Do not go overboard by yourself. It takes time for the ship’s crew to rescue anyone who falls overboard. Your body could be attracted by sharks or other sea animals. It is best to wait for help.
  8. Never smoke inside the elevator. These elevators are pressurized, meaning smoke can build up quickly. Get out as soon as you feel dizzy. It doesn't necessarily mean that breathing is safe, even though the outside air is clean.
  9. Learn the evacuation procedure. Every year, many people die in elevators. In an emergency, you should follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
  10. Get familiar with the fire drill. Fire drills occur regularly, typically once per day. Everyone on the deck must evacuate during a drill. Follow the directions given by the crew members. Once the drill has been completed, return back to your cabin.
  11. Ask questions before accepting food or drinks. Food poisoning is a common problem among cruisers. Many people are unaware that certain foods cannot be eaten aboard ships. Many cruise ships ban raw oysters. If you're not sure whether the food being served is safe, you can politely decline it and opt for another meal.
  12. Use the pool with caution There have been numerous instances of people accidentally falling into the pools. It is possible to slip and fall into the pool without being noticed. It is also possible to slip on the ground. Always wear appropriate footwear and pay close attention to what's around you.
